Points of Distinction: College of Osteopathic Medicine

  • For nine years straight, the MSU College of Osteopathic Medicine (MSUCOM) has ranked in the top 5% of all medical schools (M.D. and D.O.) for primary care education, according to U.S. News & World Report.
  • MSUCOM was the first osteopathic school to be publicly assisted and the first to be part of a major university.
  • The college was the first ever to establish a dual D.O. / Ph.D. program.
  • Two-thirds of MSUCOM alumni remain to practice in Michigan, and are active in 77 of 83 counties.
  • To provide high-quality pre- and postdoctoral osteopathic medical education, MSUCOM collaborates with 27 community hospitals and more than 2,000 volunteer clinical faculty members in its Statewide Campus System.
  • With expansion into two sites in southeast Michigan—at the Detroit Medical Center downtown and the Macomb University Center in Clinton Township— the college will educate 300 students in each entering class.
